The project
The aim of this project is to enhance the appeal of local, cultural, and tourist offerings along the E5 long-distance hiking trail in North and South Tyrol by leveraging digitalization and promoting sustainability. The project intends to achieve this goal by capturing the highlights along the route, creating tourist packages in collaboration with service providers and local centers, and improving the infrastructure. By doing so, the project seeks to enhance the cross- border tourism experience, establish territorial strategies for the promotion of soft tourism, and develop sustainable tourism products. To accomplish these objectives, the project will undertake several activities, including capturing the highlights along the E5, creating tourism packages, evaluating and adapting a bookable route guidance, and developing marketing tools and digital solutions. Cross-border collaboration between project partners is expected to generate added value and reinforce the role of culture and sustainable tourism in promoting economic development, social inclusion, and innovation at the local level.
Project objectives
The project pursues the following objectives:
The cooperation project for the valorisation of the European long-distance hiking trail E5 in the area of North and South Tyrol pursues the objective of creating a tourism offer that is close to nature, based on local culture and improved by digitalisation. By involving the partners, but also by valorising the places along the E5 route, local, cultural and tourist offers can be made more attractive and accessible to a market interested in slow tourism offers. The first of the objectives is to network and improve the cross-border tourism offer. For guests, the border between the two countries should be virtually imperceptible, as they will be able to take advantage of high-quality cross-border offers on both sides of the said border and, if necessary, also book them. At the level of the individual participating tourism organisations, territorial strategies for the development of soft tourism are to be developed and implemented, which should also lead to the enhancement of the respective cultural and natural resources. Based on these local strategies, the development of sustainable tourism products should also be realised, including the improvement and enhancement of the respective hiking routes or stages of the long-distance hiking trail through to the development of offer packages in connection with the local cultural heritage of the respective tourist destination. Finally, there is to be a paradigm shift in the use of the offers through the development of a mobility and logistics offensive, which will create cross-border ecotourism measures to improve and protect the natural environment by improving the offers and facilities.
